Madam Walker Theater;

Feb. 14-15

Stunning in every way, this rock opera cum ballet is beautifully scripted, designed, composed, danced and sung. Spanning the story of Africa from its earliest dawning to the present millennium, it’s the story of people trying to find their place in the natural and built environment, learning to co-exist first with the flora and fauna and then with humans in waves of conquest, colonizing and globalizing. Instruments are part of the storytelling, with pipes and flutes giving sway to the saxophone, tin cans adding to traditional drums, tap shoes coupling with ankle jingles. It’s a serious story of surviving waves of time shared with humor, pathos and wisdom. What a wonderful gift from the Walker to the community at large.
