Here's a new art competition that connects the arts with social justice...
Local coalition announces Art 4 Justice project to spread word about community organizing for social justice in central Indiana.
Indianapolis — Central Indiana Jobs with Justice is calling for artist entries in the first ever Art 4 Justice competition. This competition invites artists of all media to submit their best pieces along the social justice theme of Jobs with Justice. All across Indiana, Jobs with Justice is fighting for fair wages, the right to organize and quality, affordable health care for all. Their website centralindianajwj.org details the social justice activities and issues the coalition has been fighting for since 2001.
The entry fee is $10 per submission, and applications are due by 4:00 p.m. on Monday, August 17th. The final art work must be submitted by November 17th and the winners will be announced at the annual Scrooge Party, a fundraiser for Jobs with Justice. Tickets to the Scrooge Party are $15 each, and the art work will be available for purchase at the silent auction. Select pieces will then be made into Jobs with Justice posters to earn additional income for the non-profit organization.
"People are always asking how they can get involved in our fight for social justice. Not everyone is interested in attending a rally or writing a letter the editor. This way, people can submit their artwork to the cause or attend the Scrooge Party and support the cause financially," said Allison Luthe, Community Organizer at Jobs with Justice and organizer of the competition.
