New York City-based singer-songwriters Trina Hamlin and Natalia Zuckerman met a couple of years ago at the Folk Alliance in Memphis, Tenn. Not familiar with the Alliance? Let Hamlin explain: “Musicians, presenters, booking agents and more descend upon a hotel and turn it into a college dorm filled to the gills with music. Hotel rooms are transformed into small listening spaces and people wander from room to room checking it all out. You run in- to friends and fellow musicians and have a chance to play together. I loved what Natalia was doing and we decided it would be a blast to do a bit of touring together.”
Zuckerman, an accomplished guitar player, singer and songwriter, has music and the tradition of performing in her family tree. Her grandfather played in Polish klezmer bands, her father is violinist and conductor Pinchas Zuckerman, her mother is flutist and writer Eugenia Zuckerman and her sister Arianna is an opera singer. She’s touring in support of her latest record, “Brand New Frame,” released earlier this month to great reviews.
Hamlin may not have quite as illustrious a past, but she’s picked up several accolades, and her music has been featured in several television shows including “Dawson’s Creek” and “The Real World.” She’s also performed on “Late Night with Conan O’Brien.”
Asked about the vibe of the show, Hamlin said, “I am there to have fun. Yes, I’m serious about the music and hope that I play well but there is fun at the bottom of it all. Within the music there is emotion, groove and more. I’d like to think it’s a well-rounded experience. Musically they should expect to go on a ride. Kick off your shoes and let me do the driving a bit. A little harmonica, guitar, piano and maybe the kitchen sink.”
“I love the warm welcome I have received from the fine folks of Indy!” Hamlin continues. “It is a place I try to get back to a few times each year. Hope to see you all on Saturday.”
