Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story

by Matthew Socey

Three and a half stars (R)
John C. Reilly

Comedy that pokes fun at the cliché-ridden music biopics of the last 50 years, not just Ray and Walk the Line. What a concept, a parody film that actually does some research as opposed to throwing a bunch of jokes together aimlessly, regardless of genre (Scary/Epic/Date Movie). It’s nice to see John C. Reilly in a lead role and he successfully carries the film. Smartly written music from many eras and styles is a plus. The encounters with Elvis and The Beatles don’t work, but overall one of the better comedies of 2007. Jenna Fischer from The Office costars. 96 minutes. DVD INFO: In addition to the single-disc theatrical release, an unrated two-disc special edition is available that includes “The Unbearably Long, Self-Indulgent Director’s Cut,” a commentary track, deleted and extended scenes and loads of featurettes and other extras.
