They called it a celebration, but the ribbon-cutting ceremony in Evansville to mark the beginning of construction for the I-69 extension was a private party organized to insulate concrete-pouring big wigs from any whiff of protest. The new-terrain route being “celebrated” not only ignores an existing route, but will wreck 7,000 acres of forest and farmland and is underfunded by at least $2 billion.
