The Vogue
Sunday, May 6
Indianapolis rock fans were treated to an inspiring show that included up-and-coming New York band the Virgins and Aussie band Jet.
The Virgins took the stage with an energy and style built upon the great bands of its hometown without sounding derivative or clichéd. The crowd returned that energy in a way that indicated that the Virgins might have a big future.
Jet took the stage to a thunderous cheer and did not disappoint, playing a mixture of songs from both of its albums. In true rock show style, its set felt unrehearsed. Vocalist Nic Cester departed the stage to ascend to the railing of the Vogue’s balcony, beginning one of its radio hits, but he later fell from one of the speaker stacks after scaling it and teetering precariously while he played.
Jet’s 13-song set included fan favorites “Cold Hard Bitch,” “Are You Gonna Be My Girl” and “Bring It on Back.” Afterwards, the crowd cheered on Jet for a three-song encore that began with the title track of its new album. The final song, “Rip It Up,” was jokingly suggested to be about Paris Hilton.
