The Hanson Brothers are appearing at Saturday night's Indiana Ice vs. Cedar Rapids Rough Riders game.Fans of the film Slap Shot know that The Hanson Brothers, Steve Carlson (aka Steve Hanson), Jeff Carlson (Jeff Hanson) and David Hanson (Jack Hanson), went from being hockey players to being hockey players that were in a film to being cult film icons.
The 1977 film initially received mixed reviews, but over time gained a cult following. The film questioned the line drawn between sport, violence and entertainment. Thirty years later, there is still no clear answer. Within the last few years, SI, ESPN.com and The Sporting News named Slap Shot as one of the top ten sports films of all time.
The trio reunited in the early 90s to don the jerseys and trademark glasses for a couple of games that two of the guys worked in the front office. The Hansons make 35-40 appearances a year, including this Saturday night’s Indiana Ice vs. Cedar Rapids Rough Riders game at the Pepsi Coliseum at 7:05 p.m. Tickets are $11/15.
