The 'Callejon Experience'

If you ignore the climate and our lack of palm trees, not to mention hand-rolled cigars, Indianapolis has been feeling more than a little like Havana lately. There’s the Marìa Magdalena Campos-Pons exhibit at the Indianapolis Museum of Art and the Recent Projects show at the Murphy Building. Now the Indianapolis Art Center gets on board with The Callejon Experience: Afro-Cuban Havana in Sight and Sound, an exhibition in collaboration with the IMA and AMACO Clay Company that focuses on the experiences of local artists who have visited Cuba over the past several years, with a special emphasis on their contacts with Havana artist community of Callejon de Hamel.

In addition to the exhibition, this program will feature a film series, which will be shown throughout the day March 17 ($5 per film for non-members).

An opening reception for the exhibit takes place March 16 from 6-8 p.m., which also includes the opening of Shades of Clay: A Multicultural Look at Contemporary Ceramics. For a complete list of programs and events, go to www.ima-art.org, www.amaco.com or www.indplsartcenter.org.
