Stop-Loss

by Ed Johnson-Ott

3 stars (R)
Kimberly Peirce ("Boy's Don't Cry") offers a sincere, well-acted story about soldiers being railroaded into extra tours of duty by the government. Ryan Phillippe, Abbie Cornish, Channing Tatum and Joseph Gordon-Levitt costar in a tale of soldiers and suffering, both in the Iraq War and back home in Texas. Overly melodramatic in spots, but the film still gets the job done. 112 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes a commentary track by the director and co-writer Mark Richard, a making-of featurette and deleted scenes.
