DJ David Hollands hails from Muncie, Ind., but ever since he moved to New York, Indy audiences haven’t had much of a chance to hear his work. They’ll get a rare opportunity to do so Friday, when Hollands headlines the Full Flavor night at Therapy Nightclub & Lounge, organized by local DJ and promoter Greg Campbell.

“He was the very first Indiana DJ to regionally play techno and house music all over the Midwest, in the early 1990s before DJing was common,” Campbell says. “In 1995, he moved to New York City and started traveling and playing all over the world. He plays a combination of house and techno. His stuff is really dance-floor driven, and it’s very organic — a natural kind of sound. House music is all about the smoothness of the bassline and very real-sounding instruments, as opposed to trance music, which is pure synthesizers.”

Hollands headlines a long list of acts playing both the main room and lounge at Therapy, including DJs Campbell, Seth Nichols, Kyle Geiger, Rudy Kizer, Brandon Kaye, Organix, Linny McSkinny and Greg Llewellyn. For more fun, the event will feature music giveaways by Luna and hosting duties by online adult film personality Izzy the Horny Housewife and Izzy’s Girls. “Izzy has a really big fan base here,” Campbell says. “She gets people coming from out of state to see her.”

Campbell himself has been promoting Full Flavor events around the city for two years and says he’s settled on Therapy as the event’s long-term home. He also DJs at venues like Bubba’s and Bourbon Street, with a repertoire ranging from top 40 to Chicago-based house music.

“I’ve given up college to do this [and] to be successful at music,” Campbell says. “I’ve been producing, recording and making sounds … I can really do something with. I’m trying to be not just a jack of all trades, but a master of trades as well.”
