Four and a half stars

This Yep Roc reissue of Nick Lowe’s 1978 solo debut compiles the U.K. and U.S. track lists — plus B-sides — of this storied album for one lengthy, completist-friendly listen. A master of the pop-rock trade known for his razor-sharp studio ears, Lowe skips around throughout the very fun and funny Jesus, sounding — on purpose — like everyone else who was good in the mid- to late-1970s. Such diverse impersonations make the album seem almost like a greatest hits from any number of successful artists from that death rattle era.

Sounds like: one man’s many snapshots of the ’70s
