
• To celebrate their partnership with iTunes, Starbucks will give away 1.5 million “song of the day” cards per day that you can use on iTunes starting Oct. 2 and running through Nov. 7. The artists featured will include Bob Dylan, Paul McCartney, Joni Mitchell, Joss Stone, Band of Horses and many others.
• Dr. Dre is working on a solo album that will be released in 2008. Dre has stated that this is his last solo record before retirement.
• Speaking of rappers and retiring, Jay-Z is coming out of retirement (again) and releasing a new solo record in November.
• Saturday Night Live has announced their musical guests lineup for the upcoming season. The season kicks off this Saturday with Kanye West. Other guests announced include the Foo Fighters, Spoon and Bon Jovi.
• Snoop Dogg was sentenced to 1,600 hours of community service and three years of probation stemming from weapons charges last year.
• Ryan Adams will release an EP Oct. 23.
• Oasis will release their first digital-only single, “Lord, Don’t Slow Me Down.” It will be available on their Web site, www.oasisinet.com, starting Oct. 21.
• Prince has started a battle with YouTube over the posting of his music videos and performances. So far, over 2,000 videos have been pulled.
