• Owl Studios’ jazz artists who will perform at Oranje Saturday, Sept. 15 include Cynthia Layne & Friends at 9 p.m. and The Dixon/Rhyne Project at 1 a.m. Oranje will take place at 2323 N. Illinois St. and runs from 8 p.m. until 2 a.m. For details, read this week’s NUVO cover story on Oranje.

• Award-winning jazz clarinetist Frank Glover recreates his acclaimed Politico CD at the Jazz Kitchen Sunday, Sept. 16 from 6-9 p.m. Glover says he will perform standards with a quartet, orchestra and string ensemble for the Politico performance.

• “Cool Jazz & Hip Humor” returns to Morty’s Comedy Joint, 3625 E. 96th St., Wednesday, Sept. 19, with jazz vocals by Brenda Williams & Friends from 6-8 p.m. Hip Humor will be performed by nationally-regarded comedian Gerald Kelly from 8:15-9:45 p.m. Yours truly will host the evening.

• Jazz at UIndy opens its Jazz Artist Series Wednesday, Sept. 19 featuring saxophonist Harry Miedema and trombonist Vaughan Wiester in a quintet presentation of jazz standards at 7:30 p.m. in the Christel DeHaan Fine Arts Center, Room 115.
