Jazz has come to the Westside, landing at Stasia’s Event Center, 2441 Lafayette Road, in a location that knew former life as Papa Joe’s Italian Restaurant. Stasia’s will present jazz and blues Fridays, Saturdays and Sundays from 8 p.m. to midnight.
Steve Barnett, general manager for the jazz room, and Russell Rodgers, owner/CEO of C&R Catering, have joined forces for the shows. Barnett has some ambitious long-range plans, including a monthly jazz concert downtown at the World War Memorial Auditorium combining national and local talent.
“It will be a matinee format with shows starting early after work and after-sets here at Stasia’s Event Center,” he added.
Barnett is hoping to hold the first downtown concert in late September or October.
The John Harden Project opened Stasia’s Event Center jazz series Friday, July 4. Hazel John Strong performs Friday, July 11 followed by the Finnell Factor Saturday, July 12. Admission is $5 per person.
