Singer-songwriter Jason Wilber kicks off the seventh season of the Indy Folk Series this Saturday with a warm, intimate solo show. He’ll take you on his journey from his hometown to a hotel lobby in Galway with his slice-of-time songs and stories.
Wilber, who has been playing in bands since he was 14 years old, realized in his early 20s that he wanted to concentrate on performing with other singer-songwriters. He played with the late Bill Wilson for six months and with Carrie Newcomer for several years. “All that time, I was writing my own songs, too, but not performing them very often,” Wilber says. “I started working with John Prine when I was 26 and did my first solo record a year later.”
Since then, Wilber has released five more of his own albums and played lead guitar for Hal Ketchum, Tim Grimm, Iris Dement and Todd Snider. He played and toured with Prine the whole time and was part of the Grammy-winning Best Contemporary Folk Album in 2006 for Fair & Square.
