Circus opera

American Opera Theatre will perform 'Acis and Galatea' as circus opera.

The American Opera Theatre will come to Indianapolis for the first time Feb. 8, 7:30 p.m. In its mission to introduce opera to people who don’t like opera, the company will present their version of Händel’s Acis and Galatea as the world’s first circus opera, targeting mainly kids and kids-at-heart.

AOT turns the theater into a circus tent and its performers into mimes, trapeze girls, clowns and even a dancing bear. The performance is complete with aerial acts, tumbling, magic, juggling, popcorn and cotton candy.

Acis and Galatea will be performed at the Old Centrum, 520 E. 12th St. Tickets are $20, $15 for seniors and students. Call 812-322-1365 for reservations.
