‘Trespasser’ at Harrison

Emerging artist and established preservationist Kipp Normand and architectural photographer Ginny Taylor Rosner are both fascinated by the passage of time, loss and decay.

Normand scavenges old paper, wood and small objects from junk stores, trash cans and abandoned buildings. He builds cases of wood and glass, then fills them with materials gathered over years of collecting. The work certainly recalls the assemblages of Joseph Cornell, but Normand’s seemingly total commitment to his process, history and a decided sense of place deliver his pieces from the derivative to a place he can begin to call his own.

Rosner calls abandoned buildings “illuminated spaces.” She explores those spaces with her camera, documenting their enduring resonances.

Both of these artists will be showing new work in the show Trespasser: Found Objects and Stolen Images, opening at the Harrison Gallery on Friday, Sept. 10.

The opening lasts from 6 to 9 p.m. The opening coincides with an artists’ open house at the Harrison; 15 studios will be open and live music will be provided courtesy of Indy’s Music Channel.
