The cast of 'Black Gold'The Phoenix Theatre will present the National New Play Network’s Continued Life of New Plays Fund “rolling world premiere” of Seth Rozin’s comedy Black Gold April 10-May 4. In it, Curtis Walker purchases an oil rig on eBay and taps into one of America’s largest oil reserves right under his own Detroit backyard. Walker’s discovery causes a wild chain reaction that throws the world into turmoil, proving just how much America’s petroleum addiction keeps world events on edge. Six actors play more than 80 roles in the fast-paced, futuristic satire of class, race and greed in a country that will go to any length to keep gas tanks full.
Black Gold performances are Thursdays at 7 p.m., Fridays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. Tickets are $25, $15 for those 24 and under. During CheapSeats week, April 10-13, all tickets are just $15. Call the Phoenix, 749 N. Park Ave., at 317-635-PLAY or go to www.phoenixtheatre.org for reservations and info.
