It was a soulful weekend in downtown Indy as an exceptional collection of jazz musicians performed in this years annual Indianapolis Jazz Festival. Headliner John Legend drew an impressive crowd Saturday night, with performances from other outstanding artists to fill out the weekend nicely.

On May 31st, in the Ransburg Auditorium at the University of Indianapolis, the Indianapolis Metropolitan High School graduated. Among the 40 graduates was Jessica Larkins, a writing intern for Nuvo. With her friends, family, and daughter at her side, Jessica started a new chapter in her life.

A group of people met outside of Wellpoint/Anthem, on Monument Circle, to protest health care policies. The protest featured people whose lives have been affected negatively by these policies. Some of the speakers included Donna Smith who appeared in the Michael Moore film SiCKO and Steve Skvara, a retired steelworker who appeared on the Oprah Winfrey show. Both shared their stories on the failures of the health care system.

Pictura Gallery, located on the square in Bloomington at Sixth and College, hosted a grand opening tonight showcasing Arboles, an exhibit with photographs by Tyagan Miller. Arboles is a collection of images from Miller's continuing series on vexed landscapes, offering ways of paying attention to the grace and resignation of trees. Many local residents came to support Miller's new work, resulting in an impressive turnout.
Gallery owners David Moore and his wife Martha expect to showcase Tyagan's work until the beginning of May.

Three Time National Mountain Bike Champion Jeff Lenosky defied gravity today at Bicycle Garage Indy. Known for his World Record 45 1/2" bunny-hop, a vertical leap, Lenosky showed off his skills for an appreciative crowd. He will have additional shows Saturday, March 15th @ 10:30, 2:00, and 4:00, and Sunday, March 16th at noon and 3:00 PM.
