The Dog Days of Summer are upon us, and our government is taking some much needed R. & R. from the ever-exhausting "War on Terror." And how can you blame them? We're all tired of it. Remaining vigilant for days on end is a taxing exercise, although I have to say my glutes have never been firmer. Congress has recessed until September fourth, but nobody knows how to vacation better than George W. Bush.
Set to become the all-time record holder for most vacation days in any administration, our president left for Kennebunkport last Thursday for the start of a two week getaway. Some might criticize Bush for lacking a sense of duty during a time of war he implemented, but what they don't realize is he's having exactly what the terrorists can't stand the most: good times!
If I were a terrorist, I'd be livid hearing the news that Bush is taking half of a month off. Nothing is more frustrating than not being taken seriously. All the beefed up security and troop surges in the world couldn't stroke my ego enough when I see my enemy zipping around a lake on a Chris Craft. Then, he'll tool around his Crawford ranch with a denim shirt like all is right with the world. Last time I checked, this is a war! I'd love to take a break, but I'm too busy hating freedom.
Now, because I'm not a terrorist (thank God), I understand the mind game the president is pulling on these jerks. I'm sure the soldiers over in Iraq appreciate Bush's psychological manipulation, too. As the president has said, bringing these terrorists to justice is hard work. So, as our men and women risk their lives in the blistering Iraq sun on a daily basis, they know their president is working hard while he's hardly working.
418: that's how many vacation days Bush has taken so far in his two terms as president. That's over a year of vacation in less than eight. Those are some Good Times, indeed. Even in the face of adversity, George Bush can find the strength to enjoy himself. He's like the Jimmie "J.J." Walker to al-Qaeda's harsh reality of life in the Chicago projects. So, we should follow our president's lead, because the summer's almost over. We shouldn't let our fears of another terrorist attack get the best of us- besides, that ought to be reserved for when it's closer to election.
