On Friday, August 31st, musicians will converge on the historic Melody Inn to pay tribute to the perhaps the most influential band of the past 25 years during a celebration called: “Death or Glory: A Tribute to the Music The Clash.”
Though The Clash are considered a seminal punk band, the show will
feature music from the many styles The Clash drew influence from. The
Indiana Reggae Band are quickly becoming Indianapolis premiere Reggae
act. The Clash drew heavily on the Jamaican sound on songs such as
“Guns of Brixton” and the Indiana Reggae Band are sure to do these
songs up with lots of island flavor. Jeff Byrd and the Wingmen are a
traditional Rock band in the tradition of Jersey rockers like
Springsteen or Southside Johnny. Jeff’s made noe secret of the fact
that he’s a huge Clash fan and is sure to put a rockin’ twist on some
of the clash’s classic anthems. Coinslot are great ska influenced punk
band based out of Bloomington who have a break-neck guitar style and
one of the most energetic front women in town. Expect energy, expect
crowd participation but mostly expect the unexpected when Coinslot puts
a ska spin on the music of Joe Strummer and the Clash. Up!Scumbag are
at the apex of the Indianapolis Punk scene. They’ve easily the most
prolific band in Indiana with 4 full length releases, several EPs and a
DVD under their belt, that add up to more than 70 original songs in
their catalogue. They won over new fans last year at the Elvis Birthday
bash when they did the music of “The King” up “scumbag style” . You can
bet when they take the stage at Historic Melody Inn and start cranking
out Clash tunes they’re going to have fists punping in the air and jaws
on the floor.
