In our fast-paced world of cell phones, double lattes and retinas burned by LCD, it is nice to see someone taking an antiquated approach to something – anything. The music of Alexa Woodward, filled with plucky banjos and lamenting, flawless vocal performances, provides the listener with a sound from long ago. Woodward effortlessly sings and plucks her banjo to her backwoods-inspired songs without sounding like someone chasing the textbook example of porch music.
Elam Abraham Blackman, whose smoky voice and bare bones guitar playing inspires images of Johnny Cash and Bob Dylan, will join Woodward at Earth House, 237 N. East St., on Sunday, Nov. 22 at 8 p.m. Add Indy’s own garage rock-inspired folk rockers, accordions, and Adam Kuhn’s Holy Ghost Canyon to the mix, and the result will be a journey through the mountain sounds of Americana. Woodward and Blackman will also be doing an in-store performance at Indy CD and Vinyl on Nov. 22.
