Friday night at the Jazz Kitchen
David Hoppe
When I was a teenager, if you’d asked me to describe the ideal nightclub, there’s a good chance I would have come up with a fair approximation of what Dave has going at the corner of 54th and College.
Who or what gives us freedom?
Steve Hammer
I do have problems with the propaganda aspect of July 4. Hancock
Ed Johnson-Ott

Marc D. Allan
The Indianapolis punk-rock band — “junk rock,” the group likes to say — just released its first disc of new material in 10 years, Endless Bummer (Kid Tested Records). And it sounds just as good and immediate as everything the band has released since its 1989 debut, Destroyed.

Bridging cultures
Julianna Thibodeaux
The recent exchange between the Shandong College of Arts in Shandong Province and the Indianapolis Art Center represents the best of what such cultural exchanges can offer: a humanity to individuals, those who are outside of the political and economic power structure, and those who would, one could argue, like to see the negative tensions disappear.

Editors
This month’s IDADA First Friday Art Tour is hit-and-miss, given that it falls on July 4. But there will still be plenty of galleries open from 6-9 p.m. for your art perusing pleasure before the fireworks show that night.
