"Whiteout" on DVD

Here's a thriller that's suspenseful and literally chilling! Director Dominic Sena (Gone in Sixty Seconds, Swordfish) returns to the big screen after a long absence to adapt Greg Rucka's graphic novel about a U.S. Marshall (Kate Beckinsale, Underworld) stationed on a remote base in Antarctica who has uncovered a nasty plot involving murdered geologists, a Russian plane that crashed 52 years ago in the South Pole, and an empty lockbox inside that holds the key to solving the mystery. Like John McTiernan's Basic, it feels very claustrophobic, even when changing locations, and through most of the film the audience can't help but feel left in the dark. Sena keeps the pace fast and the viewer interested. Beckinsale does an excellent job as Marshall Carrie Stetko, who's almost always just in the dark as we are! Whiteout makes for an entertaining jolter. 101 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes deleted scenes.
