What you missed: 2007 Remarkable Tree Tour

Keep Indianapolis Beautiful and NUVO collaborated on the 2007 Remarkable Tree Tour last Saturday with a bus tour of favorite Indianapolis trees. The approximately 50 participants traveled on a biodiesel-powered bus, visiting trees throughout the city with the help of tree-guru tour guide Lindsey Purcell. The trip culminated in a tree-themed lunch provided by City Café at Roberts Park Church.

The above photo features the champion tree: a massive Chinquapin Oak on the city’s Southeastside. Home- and tree-owners Bob and Sheila Adsit were well-prepared for the bus’ arrival: They had chairs, including a massage chair, a band and a cooler full of drinks — along with many proud neighbors. Mayor Bart Peterson issued a proclamation, honoring the tree, its owners, KIB and the readers of NUVO.

You can continue to nominate your favorite tree at www.kibi.org/remarkable_trees. This process will continue year-round on the KIB Web site, with a voting function available on nuvo.net next summer.

Address of tree: 2601 Brookside Parkway South Drive, corner of Temple and Brookside Parkway South Drive. Brookside Parkway is one traffic light north of 10th and Rural. Temple is one block west of Rural.
