Web exclusive: The return of the Z

Melody Inn
Sunday, March 25

The NYC-based Japanese band Peelander-Z brought its high-energy, audience-participation-heavy show to Indianapolis Sunday night. The non-sequitur action comic punk band has gathered a strong local fan base, first having played at the Midwest Music Summit in 2002. The Melody Inn has since become its Indy home.

The Melody Inn was full of people ready to play along with the band on March 25. Some of the crowd actually got to play along. Signs indicating “drummer, bass player and guitarist needed” quickly filled the positions. Then, the band turned over its instruments and created a makeshift bowling alley. Bass player Peelander Red was the human bowling pin.

Signs helping the crowd sing along to its lyrics aided Z’s songs. The band had the whole crowd clapping and dancing along to its frenetic show.
