Web exclusive: Out from the Stone Age

“Era Vulgaris”

“Era Vulgaris” is just as rockin’, sexy, catchy and sarcastic as any other QOTSA album. But after a couple listens, you'll realize that in spite of its similarities to the other records, it’s the most different. Deep layers of clean guitars mix with dirty synth mesh and chanting vocals over tribal drumming and nasty bass lines. And that’s just one song. The band is at the peak of their songwriting and just about everything here has been meticulously crafted. One of the best of ’07. Key tracks include “Into the Hollow,” “Suture Up Your Future” and “I’m Designer.”
