CD Review Joe O’Gara White Trash With Money Toby Keith Show Dog Nashville/Universal In a bold move to gain more control of his career, Toby Keith formed his own independent record label last year. And with his first release on Show Dog Nashville, Keith continues his upward climb as a singer/songwriter/musician/producer. Whether he is singing about hooking up (“I Ain’t Already There” and “Crash Here Tonight”), breaking up (“A Little Too Late” and “Too Far This Time”), having a good time (“Get Drunk and Be Somebody” and “Grain of Salt”) or making choices in one’s life (“Ain’t No Right Way”), Keith delivers the message in the straightforward style that has helped him sell nearly 30 million albums during his 13-year career. In addition to co-producing “White Trash” (with Lari White), Keith wrote or co-wrote all 12 songs on the CD, which includes three more “Bus Songs” (tunes that Keith and his longtime writing partner/guitarist Scotty Emerick come up with on the tour bus, not originally intended to be recorded). One of country music’s more popular “outlaws,” Toby Keith is taking great strides in his quest to also be a renaissance man. And White Trash with Money is proof of that.
