Sympathetic Oscillations EP
Ryan Reidy spent a good amount of time assaulting eardrums as Ari Ari’s guitarist, and he continues the trend with Thunders’ debut EP The Sympathetic Oscillations. While Reidy’s impossibly drawn-out vocal phrasings get a little tiring, there’s enough sonic bombast here to hide the album’s weaknesses. The warbling electric guitar slithering out of the left speaker on “Take It Like a Thief,” the elegiac acoustic guitar part on “Letter to the Priest” and the unmerciful, squalling feedback on “Somnambulist” all make this band intriguing. But there’s just not enough going on to make them great.
