Summit success. Despite a few bugs — like marooning several out-of-town bands in the middle of Glendale Mall — last week’s Midwest Music Summit took a big step in the right direction, providing quality entertainment for fans of local music and a real sense of community for area musicians.
Summer school. Most Indiana schools — including many lacking air-conditioned facilities — started earlier than ever this year, continuing a trend brought on by an emphasis on readying for ISTEP tests taken at the start of the school year. Front-loading the educational experience earns a bad grade.
Fair to great. This will likely become the best-attended State Fair in many years, saying something good about Hoosiers. The fair, located in an inner-city neighborhood, provides a superb blend of the urban and rural experience for thousands of suburbanites who might not otherwise see these sides of life.
