Thumbsup :: Thumbsdown

What are we missing? In case we didn’t already know it, the Indiana Department of Education wants to spend almost half a million dollars on an ad campaign to tell us ... how great public education is in Indiana! Gee, and this is an election year. And Sue Ellen Reed, the head of DOE, is running again. You would think her record would speak for itself.
Cultural convergence. Two of this city’s favorite sons, both of whom are known for their way with words, happened to be in town last weekend: Kurt Vonnegut and John Hiatt. Vonnegut was at the Art Center and Hiatt at the Egyptian Room. Had their paths crossed they could have swapped stories about growing up on the Northside.
The right choice. Some Hoosiers were disappointed that John Kerry didn’t choose Indiana Sen. Evan Bayh as his running mate. But, unlike Bayh, John Edwards balances Kerry’s wealth and life as a career politician by coming from a working-class background. Plus, Edwards is a Democrat.
