Thumbs up: Recognizing service and sacrifice

This Memorial Day Weekend offers the opportunity for a stroll under one of Indy's finest tree canopies at Crown Hill Cemetery, a shady place to contemplate acres of Hoosier lives and deaths. A Civil War re-enactment will encampSunday through a special Civil War memorial service Monday. The state's longest-running Memorial Day ceremony kicks off at 2 p.m. on Monday, May 28, with patriotic music, a roll call of fallen Hoosier heroes, an honor guard, 21-Gun Howitzer Cannon Salute, Taps, and more. Indiana's Adjutant General, Major General R. Martin Umbarger, will keynote. Refreshments will be available and participants are encouraged to bring a chair or blanket and a picnic lunch, if desired.
