Thumbs up: green jobs

A new report from the University of Massachusetts, “Green Recovery — A Program to Create Good Jobs and Start Building a Low-Carbon Economy,” finds that a rapid $100 billion program of national public-private investment in a transition from a fossil-fuel to a clean-energy economy could result in 43,000 new green jobs in Indiana and $2 billion in revenue for the state. The report finds that investing in clean energy would create four times as many jobs as spending the same amount of money within the oil industry. The program could be paid for with proceeds from auctions of carbon permits under a global warming cap-and-trade program. But $100 billion is also the amount of money that the federal government dedicated to consumer rebates in April.
