Thumbs down: Gray hole 

The city has decided to reject bids to build on the former Market Square Arena site by two local developers. It is now seven years since the Pacers’ basketball arena was demolished, creating what should have been a golden opportunity to create a major landmark on prime real estate — a gateway to the east side of downtown. But the city has been unwilling to invest in itself or to show the imagination necessary to turn this empty space into the asset it should be.
