* Indianapolis Civic Theatre will present playwright Ken Ludwig's (Lend Me a Tenor
, Moon Over Buffalo
, Leading Ladies
) new adaptation of the 1932 screwball comedy Twentieth Centiry
. Bankrupt Broadway director Oscar Jaffe boards the legendary train and encounters his former discovery and ex-chorus girl Lily Garland, who is now a big Hollywood star. * Footlite Musicals will present the Indianapolis community theater premiere of Miss Saigon,
the smash musical with music by Claude-Michel Schonberg and lyrics by Alain Boublil and Richard Maltby Jr. It's a modern retelling of Puccini's Madame Butterfly
: the story of the doomed love affair between an American soldier and a Vietnamese girl during the last days of the Vietnam War. Performances are May 1-3, 8-9 and 15-17, Fridays-Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2:30 p.m. at the Hedback Community Theater, 1847 N. * The Artists Studio will present the beloved musical Disney's Beauty & the Beast
May 1-24. The stage version is based on the Academy Award-winning animated feature and features all the songs from the movie, plus new songs written especially for the Broadway version. Performances are Fridays-Saturdays at 7:30 p.m. with matinees Saturdays at 2 p.m. and Sundays at 5 p.m. Tickets are $15, children 12 and under $11.
