The Yanomamo man at UIndy

Anthropologist Napoleon Chagnon, known worldwide for his pioneering work in the Amazon rainforest with the Yanomamo people, will speak April 13 at the University of Indianapolis. Chagnon’s 1968 book, Yanomamo: The Fierce People, detailing the Yanomamo’s hallucinogenic rituals and brutal ax fights, has been a staple on reading lists for almost anyone who has ever taken an anthropology course.

Chagnon will speak on “Yanomamo Warfare and the Struggle for Political Security” at 7:30 p.m. in UIndy’s Ransburg Auditorium, 1400 E. Hanna Ave. The event is free. Call 317-788-2103 for information, or e-mail
