'The Soul of Ch'ien-Nu Leaves Her Body' at Butler

"Out of the Box," Butler University Theatre's season of comedies and tragedies from other cultures, continues Feb. 25-March 1 with The Soul of Ch'ien-Nu Leaves Her Body by Cheng Teh-hui at Lilly Hall Studio Theatre. The play is a romance drawn from a T'ang dynasty (618-907) story. Two lovers who wish to marry are forcibly separated. The soul of the young woman leaves her body and joins her departing beloved. The "soulless" young woman pines for her absent lover and becomes increasingly ill. Finally, the couple are reunited and all ends happily. Director Owen Schaub and Butler associate professor of music Frank Felice will collaborate to create a contemporary score for the play. Show times are Feb. 25-28 at 8 p.m. and Feb. 28-March 1 at 2 p.m. Tickets are $10, $5 for students. For tickets, call 317-940-9247 or visit butler.edu/theatre/current.aspx.
