The Office: Season Four

4 stars (NR)

Year four of “The Office” was supposed to be a mega-season, with NBC ordering a whopping 30 episodes. Then the writer's strike happened and we ended up with 16. This season focused on relationships — Michael (Steve Carell) and Jan (Melora Hardin) induced more squirms than ever, Jim (John Krasinski) and Pam (Jenna Fischer) proved that TV lovebirds can become a couple without losing their spark, and Andy (Ed Helms) and Angela (Angela Kinsey) awkwardly hooked up while tortured ex Dwight (Rainn Wilson) grimaced in the background. Meanwhile, Ryan (B.J. Novak) screwed up big time in his new executive position and Stanley (Leslie David Baker) had a magnificent face-off with Michael. Overall, the year wasn't quite as good as previous ones, but slightly-off episodes of “The Office” are still better than most anything else on TV. 405 minutes. DVD INFO: Includes episode commentaries, deleted scenes, bloopers, fake public service announcements and the featurette “Writer's Block.”
