The human map

World-renowned population geneticist Dr. Spencer Wells, the innovating force behind National Geographic and IBM’s Genographic Project, will speak at the Indiana History Center, 450 W. Ohio St., on Nov. 9 to kick off the History Makers speaker series. His talk, “The Journey of Man: A Human Odyssey,” will take place at 7 p.m. The evening will include a lecture and a question-and-answer session.

Wells, a leading population geneticist, will share his experiences with the Genographic Project, an ambitious, five-year research initiative to map humankind’s journey through the ages using DNA as a study tool. Wells will share adventures from his recent trips to some of the most remote places in the world and describe how the project intends to capture an invaluable genetic snapshot of humanity before modern-day influences erase it forever.

Tickets are $25 ($20 for Indiana Historical Society members). For reservations, call 317-232-1882.
