The "flat" paintings of Adrian Schiess

Swiss artist Adrian Schiess has been exhibiting his so-called “flat” paintings around the world for over two decades. He uses large panels that are rendered in colorful enamel or digital prints covered with glossy lacquer. Then Schiess places these panels on the floor or props them against various other objects. The Indianapolis Museum of Art will unveil the artist’s first solo museum exhibition – and largest installation — in the United States on Thursday, Oct. 18. At 7 p.m. that evening, Schiess will participate in a free public discussion of his working process. For more information call (317) 923-1331 or visit
