'The Christmas Box' on stage

Richard Paul Evans’ novel, The Christmas Box, was a best-seller read by 20 million people. Then it was turned into a popular TV movie starring Maureen O’Hara and Richard Thomas. Now, The Christmas Box has been turned into a performance piece combining music and spoken-word by pianist and composer Paul Cardall.

This musical interpretation, with narration by actor Tom Dugan, is said to capture the book’s heartfelt spirit. Cardall has arranged familiar Christmas tunes and added his own, original compositions to evoke the spirit of The Christmas Box in a live, concert setting.

Cardall’s recordings have been listed on Billboard’s New Age charts. His ensemble includes percussionist Randy Herbert and cellist/guitarist Steven Sharp Nelson.

The Christmas Box will be performed Dec. 9 at 8 p.m. at Pike Performing Arts Center, 6701 Zionsville Road. Tickets are $13-$18. To order tickets, call 317-216-5455.
