Swing and dance

Dance Kaleidoscope will open 2007 with Song & Dance Jan. 4-7 at the Indiana Repertory Theatre. Choreographed by Artistic Director David Hochoy and presented by the Back Home Again Foundation, this jazz-inspired evening salutes the unforgettable music of Duke Ellington and Hoosier Cole Porter and will also feature a live performance by popular jazz violinist Cathy Morris.

“Sophisticated Ellington,” a world premiere, features classic Ellington tunes such as “A Train,” “I Got it Bad,” “Mood,” “Indigo” and “It Don’t Mean a Thing If It Ain’t Got That Swing.” “Ol’ King Cole” is set to original recordings of Cole Porter tunes from the ’20s and ’30s. It includes “Let’s Do It,” “Anything Goes,” “I’ve Got You Under My Skin” and “You’re the Top.”

Cathy Morris will perform live for “Skin Walkers,” a folkloric fantasy about beings that can shift from human to animal forms. The New Age Celtic score is by local composers T.H. Gillespie and L.E. McCullough.

There will be a one-hour Mini-Matinee at noon on Thursday for just $6. The Thursday preview performance is at 7 p.m., and Friday and Saturday shows are at 8 p.m. Sunday’s show is at 2:30 p.m. Ticket prices range from $15-$36 and are available at the IRT ticket office at 317-635-5252 or on the Web site at www.irtlive.com.
