For over a decade, Susurrus has been presenting a different kind of performance art to Indianapolis audiences, choreographed and directed by its artistic director, Melli Hoppe. Susurrus will present Current and Past Works, a selected retrospective of Hoppe’s past works along with a new piece, at Butler University.
These performances will involve Susurrus performers, Butler University theater students and members of the Indianapolis community. The concert will include Current, a new dance based on research and images gathered during the Lewis and Clark Bicentennial Signature Event at the Falls of the Ohio. Current will be performed to original music composed for this performance by Michael Organ, a Los Angeles composer.
Past works will include Tides, a piece that explores images of women in art throughout history; Beauties, a dance exploring the culture of beauty with live percussion by Tony Artis; the multimedia piece The Secret Life of Laura Petrie; and Her Turnings, which concerns the roles of women in fairy tales, with live music performed by harpist Jan Aldridge-Clark.
Current and Past Works will be performed in Lilly Hall 328 on Aug. 20-23 at 8 p.m. and Aug. 24 at 7 p.m. Tickets are $10 for adults, $5 for students. Call 940-9659 to reserve tickets.
