Stutz Holiday Show: various artists

Stutz Building, Nov. 20

This holiday show on Friday, November 20 was a chance for the 40 Stutz-based artists to show their work before the onset of holiday shopping fever. All varieties of arts and crafts were on display and on sale and there was a large crowd on hand to enjoy it. There was also, on this night, work by two artists fairly new to this venue. Jeffrey Scott Hofer, an art teacher in Brownsburg East Middle School, got his inspiration for his mixed media painting "City Patterns # 4" from an architectural detail on the facade of the Canterbury Hotel while Michele Soncini, newly arrived in Indy from Philadelphia, displayed her "Winter Geisha," a mosaic composed of stained glass, vitreous glass, and glass beads. This geisha is depicted in a flowing green robe. When you see how Soncini makes this robe flow - using directionally-cut green glass tiles on black grout - you might forget for a moment that her medium is glass and not paint.
