Nationally acclaimed master storyteller David Gonzalez will be at the Indian History Center telling "Jazz Orpheus" as part of the Storytelling Arts of Indiana series.
Gonzalez uses speech, sound, mime, dance and an inspired imagination to create his stories, which he has presented from London's Royal National Theater to Broadway. This is his first appearance in Indianapolis.
"Jazz Orpheus" is a musical twist on a Greek myth: Gonzalez conjures a jazz-infused journey into the underworld. Orpheus scats, swings and serenades his way through a series of ordeals in search of his beloved Eurydice. Gonzalez concludes the story with his own poetry about love lost and loneliness as he transitions the audience from Orpheus to the poignant Korean story of "The Three Whiskers of the Lion."
The show is Feb. 7, 7:30-9:30 p.m. Tickets are $15 in advance or $18 at the door. To order tickets or for more information, call 317-232-1882 or go to www.storytellingarts.org.
