The Indiana Hoosiers enter the 2014 football season with high hopes, seeking an answer to one looming question...

"Will there be a defense this year?"

This Indiana team walked with offensive swagger in 2013, putting up consistently big numbers, averaging 38.4 points per game (ranked 16th/125). However, the defense was too anemic, leaving a huge points deficit and the Hoosiers finishing at 5-7.

Saturday's game against Indiana State was a bit of a strategic surprise — as the question became, "Will there be passing this year?"

After establishing the run early, the Hoosiers did not waiver from it much at all, totaling 455 yards on the ground for the game. Junior Tevin Coleman led the running back corps with 247 yards on 23 carries and a pair of touchdowns.

IU's quarterback Nate Sudfeld had a quiet day, finishing with 111 yards on 11 of 18 passing and one interception.

Indiana State's runner Buck Logan added the only Sycamore touchdown late in the third quarter, and finished with 47 yards.

The Hoosier defense played well, applying pass pressure in sacks and pass breakups, holding ISU to only 10 first downs and 8 punts.

This game was not expected to answer the defensive doubters, but was a solid win. With an upcoming bye week and Bowling Green on September 13th, Hoosier fans will just have to wait.
