Drag Racing in Brown County (Slideshow)
Buried among southern Indiana's hills of turning oaks, walnuts, and ashes, is the Brown County Dragway, a weekly host to local drag racing.
This quarter-mile of sticky asphalt welcomed teams from across the midwest to a sunny Sunday of dragging, sporting, and spectating on October 13, 2013.
Several classes of cars competed, from new to old school, with the pre-1965 matchups drawing the most excitement. It was a step back to a time when duck tails, white walled slicks, and a flag girl defined the sport.
Members of Indianapolis car club, The Road Rockets, represented some of the most unique and vintage rails and gassers. After all, they had to hold home turf against Kentucky rivals, The Straight Axle Mafia.
Event staff and organizers were overwhelmed by the turnout and competition. Go check out the Hoosier charm of sheer noise, smokey burnouts, and organized chaos at Brown County Dragway... if you can find it.
