Hinkle Fieldhouse welcomed the DePaul Blue Demons for a BIG EAST matchup with the host Butler Bulldogs on January 9, 2014. Both teams came in looking for their first conference win.
Both Butler and DePaul fought to shake off their cold conference starts. In fact, the Blue Demons had to even fight the weather to get to the game, arriving just 30 minutes before tip-off.
Butler paced a close game early with a 35-32 lead at the half. Khyle Marshall put up 11 of his 15 points in limited play to keep the Bulldogs ahead.
Coach Brandon Miller watched an 11-point spread erode away, despite the hot hand of guard Kellen Dunham and his team-high 30 point effort. DePaul added defensive stops with more offensive consistency to reel in the Bulldogs during regulation 73-73.
Butler battled back from a slow overtime start, and were saved by Jackson Aldridge's buzzer beater. Score 87-87 and on to OT #2.
Another slow start doomed the Dogs. A quick bucket by DePaul's Billy Garrett and 3-pointer by Cleveland Melvin set the tone, as the Blue Demons pull away 99-94.
Butler (10-5, 0-3 BE) looks to get back on track against Georgetown at home.
