5x5: reConnect at Big Car Service Center
The May 8 kickoff to the second season of the ideas competition 5x5 was also an official farewell to Big Car Collaborative's Service Center space, which the non-profit arts organization will hand over to an auto body shop next month.
Dan Fifer won the $10,000 prize at the first 5x5 of the year, held May 8 at Big Car Collaborative's Service Center, to realize his idea to create floating gardens in urban Indy.
Here's his pitch, from the 5x5 site: "Let's give Indianapolis something that will inspire other cities. Floating gardens will make use of the excellent waterways that wind through our city while adding beauty and intrigue to the local communities. These novel gardens will bring the citizens of Indianapolis together to learn about the local environment in a unique setting that highlights the beauty of nature.
"With a group of colleagues I would like to install a floating garden on the White River near the Monon Trail's 67th Street access point. This garden would provide a proof of concept for more floating gardens throughout Indianapolis."
