Show Review

Indiscretion Radio Radio Saturday, March 27 In their CD release concert at Radio Radio for their first album, Stunning, the members of Indiscretion presented a broad range of their talents, from poppy punk to ballads to zippy novelty ditties reminiscent of They Might Be Giants. The four-woman, one-man band put on an entertaining set, running briskly through most of their new album and a few covers, including their always crowd-pleasing rendition of the Powerpuff Girls theme. They’ve got a definite stage presence, with guitarist Joel Conner’s classic rock star stylings and bassist/vocalist Carrie Ann Michalski delivering a particularly blazing rendition of her songs. The double bass work from Emily MacNeill and Michalski and strong keyboards from Amy Jackson create a nicely flowing rhythm, and Conner’s lead guitar work brings it all together. All four of the women sing at different points, and every one of them contributes a rich performance. It’s particularly fulfilling when they slip into three- and four-part harmony. Several of the members are relative newcomers to music, but they display a raw, unpolished power that gives the music a powerful kick. As with early punk records, it’s the very rawness that gives the music its strength. This is definitely a band to watch.
